Governor of Queensland, Dr Jeannette Young AC PSM visited QEII Hospital on Wednesday 22 June to Officially Open Ward 5A and also to thank and acknowledge healthcare staff for their ongoing dedication to the community.

Her Excellency was shown the soon-to-be-named Executive Office modular as an essential part of the expansion program, introduced to delighted volunteers and excited staff in Ward 3B as well as a full tour of the new Ward 5A. She was pleased to meet many staff who now call the ward home and understand the model of care that applies to patients in this space.

The tour is part of the Governor’s pledge to visit every public hospital in the state and thank staff for what they do every day, not just during the pandemic, but throughout their careers as frontline health workers.

The first patient admitted to QEII Hospital’s new beds in Ward 5A was 90 year-old, Eric Hislop from Springwood.

QEII Hospital’s new $12.1million medical ward is now open to patients, providing an additional 26 beds to care for patients with complex medical conditions.

We acknowledge and pay respect to the Traditional Owners of the lands on which our health care facilities now stand.
